The Research Center for Energy Network (Forschungsstelle Energienetze - FEN) provides answers to currently relevant questions in the domain of production, transportation and distribution of energy with a focus on electrical networks. The applied and interdisciplinary research activities provide utilities, grid operators, industrial associations, and federal institutions, with a technology-neutral and independent quantitative basis, e.g. for the implementation of energy transition strategies in Switzerland.

FEN, as a non-profit organization, acts as a bridge between academic research, industrial needs and social issues related to energy policy, shaping the transition to a more sustainable, reliable and cost effective future energy system.

The specific value of FEN precisely consists in its being application-oriented, also by virtue of the support and feedback it receives from Swiss Association for Energy and Network Research SGEN, while being embedded within an independent academic institution: this enables it to deliver credible, quantitative and timely solutions to industrially and socially relevant problems in the field of energy systems.
